Types of Rock formations found in queensland
Queensland does not have a great many strange rock formations. Geological formations are considered much younger than those found in other states of Australia. I have identified some rock formations in the Queensland region.
Bald Rock N.S.W./Queensland
An isolated rock hill; largest exposed granite surface 15200 meters above bush land measuring 750 meters in length and 500 meters in width. Emplaced into the surrounding metamorphic and sedimentary rock 247 million years ago

Winton Formation
A rock unit that blankets large areas in central-western Queensland. Consists of sedimentary rocks (sandstone, silt-stone and clay stone). Sediments that make up these rock represent the remnants of the river plains that filled the basin left by the Eromanga Sea. Ninety-five million years ago, great meandering rivers, forest pools, swamps, creeks, lakes and coastal estuaries all left behind different types of sediment. Some areas are over 400 meters thick.

Sapphire Formation
The formation of the lava plains sapphire resources is the result of extrusions or emissions from large volcanic sources. The Sapphire was subsequently transported by large river systems and deposited in the areas that they are located in today.

Queensland Devils Marbles
Made up of granite and grey in colour the Devils Marbles are a living cultural landscape.Comprised of round boulders, may of which are precariously balanced on top of one another. They were formed from an upsurge of molten rock that cooled and became solid beneath a layer of sandstone. The solidifying granite caused vertical and horizontal fractures creating rectangle blocks. Over time the water infiltrated the cracks breaking down the sandstone and then the granite. As a result the rounded granite boulders perched on top of each other have been revealed.
